Sexting... Is it dangerous?
Every day, a new word is created just because technology paves the way for it. Sexting is one of those words and it is the combination of Sex and Texting. Nowadays, sending sexually explicit messages and photos electronically, mainly by smartphones, has become a new trend.
Many people have no idea that more than 20% of teens have sent 'sexting' messages. Many more don't understand the consequences of this irresponsible fad.
We don't interact socially the same way we did years ago. Smartphones, Tablets and Social Apps have changed the way people communicate among each other and they lead people to dangerous and destructive behavior.
Some teens think it is fun, cool and harmless, but the truth is that it can have devastating consequences.
"You no longer have privacy once a photo or a video is sent to another person."
The content that was sent can now be broadcasted to anyone and the original sender has no control over any of it once he or she presses "Send".
The consequences of sexting can be severe, ranging from embarrassment to imprisonment or sometimes even worse.
The explicit photos and videos go from one person to another and it never stops. It won't take long for some photos or videos to fall in the hands of docens, hundreds or even thousands of new recipients.
- Do you actually know your friends, boyfriend or girlfriend, classmates or even loved ones sometimes?
- Can you trust them forever and ever?
Many young people have had their lives destroyed...Many have commited suicide, because of the humiliation...Others have killed another person involved in distributing the content...All this because they all thought it was a harmless game. Imagine being convicted of the crime of child pornography and serving time in prison just because you also sent something that was sent to you. What are the consequences for something that stupid?
- Not finding a job because you are now and sex offender.
- You might have to move because everyone knows what you did.
- If you have kids, you will never get close to them, again.
- You will lose your friends.
- Your life will not be the same anymore.
It was not such a harmless game after all...You should think twice before hitting the “send” button because there is no turning back once the content is sent. .
